London’s oldest restaurant remains one of the best.
Rules first opened in 1798, when Thomas Rule set out to serve quality, traditional English game fare. Today, it continues that tradition with delicious modern recipes. The interior of leather, wood, paintings, and creaky floors transport you back in time, and the friendly well-dressed staff make you feel like the member of an exclusive club while you have drinks at the bar upstairs waiting for your table to be ready.
The raw bar is exquisite, and the beef tartar amazing. The rabbit main course was a little overcooked, but the lamp ribs were perfect. There was no room for dessert after.
Any fan of James Bond, Downton Abbey, or other popular British entertainment will quickly recognize Rules, as it’s been the setting of many scenes in tv and film. I highly recommend a stop here while in London. Make sure to make a reservation weeks in advanced. We could only get 5pm on a Friday.
